How to use a teleprompter on Zoom

Three steps, no setup.

    Load your script. Paste your talking points or import them from Google Docs, no formatting needed.

    Park it under your webcam. Shrink the teleprompter window and drag it to the top of your screen, just below the lens, next to your Zoom window.

    Read and scroll. Set a comfortable speed (or drive it from your phone) and talk to the camera. You look engaged, not scripted.

Using a teleprompter while you share your screen

The hard part of a Zoom call isn't reading. It's reading while you present. What works depends on what you share.

You share a window or a tab

This is the case that works, and it is how most people share slides or a demo anyway. Pop the script into the floating always-on-top window and it stays above your slides on your screen, while the call only ever sees the window you picked. You read; they see the deck and your face.

You share your entire screen

Then everything on that screen is shared, script included, and no browser window can hide from it. Two honest fixes: share the single window instead, or move the prompter off the shared screen entirely and read from your phone or a tablet propped under the camera.

You're not sharing at all

The simplest case. Put the prompter window at the top of your screen, right under the webcam, and size it so a line of text sits as close to the lens as possible. Nobody on the call sees anything but you.

Does the teleprompter work with Zoom?
Yes. Teleprompter24 runs in a browser tab or window alongside Zoom, so you read your script while you're on the call. Put the teleprompter window right under your webcam and your eyes stay on the lens. It works exactly the same with Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex and any other video-call app.
Can I use a teleprompter on Zoom while sharing my screen?
Yes, with one rule: share a window or a tab rather than your entire screen. Open the script in the floating always-on-top window and it stays above your slides or demo for you, while the call only sees the window you picked. If you must share your entire screen, the script would be visible too. In that case run the prompter on a second device, like your phone or a tablet propped under the camera.
Does Zoom have a built-in teleprompter?
Zoom itself has no built-in teleprompter. There are teleprompter apps in the Zoom App Marketplace, and there are browser teleprompters like Teleprompter24 that run next to Zoom instead of inside it. The browser route needs no install and no admin approval, which is usually the faster path on a work laptop.
Do I need to install anything for a teleprompter on Zoom?
No download and no plugin. Open teleprompter24.com in your browser, load your script, and position the window near your camera. Nothing to install on top of Zoom.
Can the other people on the call see my teleprompter?
No. The teleprompter is just another window on your own screen, and participants only see your camera. It becomes visible to them only if you share your entire screen, or deliberately share that specific window.
Which browsers support the floating teleprompter window?
The always-on-top window uses Document Picture-in-Picture, which Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers support on Windows, Mac and Linux. Safari and Firefox don't offer it yet. There the regular prompter window still works, you just place it beside Zoom instead of floating it on top.
Is it free to use as a Zoom teleprompter?
Yes, completely free. Sign in with Google, paste your script (or import it from Google Docs), and start scrolling. No premium tier and no credit card.
How do I keep eye contact during a Zoom call?
Shrink the teleprompter window and drag it to the top of your screen, directly beneath your webcam. Lower the scroll speed to your natural pace. Because you're reading just below the lens, you appear to look straight at the camera, and at everyone on the call.
Can I control the teleprompter from my phone during the call?
Yes. Tap Share to get a QR code, scan it with your phone, and run play, pause and speed from your hand, so you never alt-tab away from Zoom mid-sentence. See the remote-control page for details.
Does it work for webinars and interviews too?
Yes. Anything that runs through your camera works the same way: webinars, sales calls, podcast interviews, job interviews, investor updates and recorded courses. The script sits under the lens and the audience sees you looking at them.
